Devotions For Dieters – January 22

Devotions For Dieters – January 22

2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Some people say that what we look like on the outside has nothing to do with what we’re like on the inside. This is true to a degree, but how we see ourselves has very much to do with what we think of ourselves. If we see ourselves as overweight, we will tend to think less of ourselves. If we see ourselves as physically fit and trim, then we will feel better. One of the advantages of leaning on Christ when we diet is that He has the power to make the old pass away and to bring about a wonderful newness to our lives. No one wants our transformation more than Christ Jesus. He’s there to help.

Today’s thought: There’s a brand new me on the way!

Spiritually Fit

Spiritually Fit

Just like how we want to be physically fit, it must also of utmost importance to keep our spiritual lives fit through prayer, worship and other spiritual disciplines.

One teaching that I could never forget was the one I heard during one of our trainings. It’s a teaching about pursuing the things the have eternal value. In the Bible, there are only few things in this earth that will last forever. Souls, Love, Worship and God’s word. If we know that these things will last more than our lifetime, then we must pursue these things more than the physical and material things.

Hearing this message, made me realize the things that are truly more important. As every human being is consisted of spirit, soul and body, the question is whether the soul is going to have eternity in heaven or hell. And we believe that indeed it is only through Jesus in which we can attain salvation. Believing that he has come on earth, died and resurrected to take our place for our sins. As the Bible said, then we can have eternal life.

God’s word. Heaven and earth will pass away but God’s word will remain forever. If God’s word is eternal, then we must keep this more to our hearts, read it and meditate on it day and night.

Love. .. ‘ but the greatest of these is Love’… Do we do things out of love or just because we are obliged to do it?

Worship.. This is one thing we will be doing more when we are in heaven as the Book of revelation tells us. Indeed God is worthy of our worship.

Anyways, I know that this post of mine hasn’t expounded the points well enough but I’m glad I wrote this because it serves as a great reminder for me too. It encourages me to read and treasure God’s everlasting words more and more. I’m currently reading the Book of Exodus now which tells a lot of things about the sabbath and the Laws during the Israelite time. More study is also needed about the Jesus resurrection and what would be a model for a Jesus church.

Devotions For Dieters – January 18

1 Samuel 2:30
‘. . . Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.’

A friend of mine played basketball in high school. He did everything he could to become the best player he could be. He worked with the coach every day. He respected the coach and did everything the coach told him, in order to please him. His hard work paid off. He starred on the team, and when he graduated, the coach told him he was the finest player he had ever had the privilege of coaching. Are we doing everything we can to please God by being the best people we can be? When we diet, we do God honor, and He will be faithful to honor us in return. If we ignore our bodies, the gift that God gave us, then we show contempt for God, and He will lose respect for us.

Today’s thought: Today I will do everything I can to please God!
