When I was pregnant with my first child, my Mom reminded me to file for Maternity benefit from our Social Security System (SSS). Even if I was not employed for several years already, but I  still continued to pay my SSS fees. Thanks to my Mom who religiously go to the bank to make the monthly payment since we were already living outside the Philippines. And thankfully, I applied for the maternity benefit because a couple of months after I gave birth, I did receive a compensation from the government. Though the sum is not that big but it’s still worth it because the processing of the documents was not that hard. our SSS has really a lot of benefits, I’m sure they also have some kind of social security disability insurance.
