The Goal of Discipline

The Goal of Discipline

I’ve been reading the book that I bought a few months back, How to Discipline Your Child without Shouting or Spanking, and I’ve learned some new insights from it. The most important insight of all is our goal of Discipline. What is our goal of discipline? Do we just want discipline children just so our lives will be much better and hassle free? Are we disciplining our children so, that our friends, relatives and teachers won’t have to complain? Or is our goal for discipline would be for our children to learn wrong and right and therefore grow up to be good and responsible adults? I would want the latter to be my own personal goal.

Once our goal is set aright then our methods will turn out to be different. If we discipline our children by injecting fear of punishment, chances are, they will only be good in front of us and secretly do ‘bad things’. So, I’ve learned that from the very start, we must try to let them understand what is right and wrong and the consequences of choosing the wrong thing i.e. hurting people’s feelings, destroying property and etc.

As I have a toddler and a preschooler now, I really want to try my best, with God’s grace in discipling them and let them be how God wants them to be.

Interior Decorating 101

Interior Decorating 101

We’re all here in my Mom in laws place and getting ourselves settled since we will be staying here for a few months. So, our first step in getting settled is to rearrange our room. My Hubby did a very good job in rearranging the furniture sets while I put all our clothes and stuff in the cabinet. It’s quite a relief that at last our clothes will be inside the cabinets and settled too. You see, ever since we left the Philippines, our clothes were just in an out of the luggage since we were traveling quite frequently.

So, to make our room more like our ‘home’ and not a guestroom, I would like to do some improvements with it:

1) Place a rug/ carpet at the middle of the room – Done!
2) Do a bit of repainting
3) Put up pretty pictures around. It can be my li’l girl’s drawing from art school or maybe I’ll look around for some nice pictures or paintings around.
4) Create a space for writing and reading. Maybe put a small desk and a chair.
5) Put a lampshade – Done!

I guess, that would be all for now. I don’t need to get some curtains or blinds even if I can get a deal on blinds because there’s already a pretty curtain put up. Then, after doing our room, my Hubby wants to continue improving and redecorating other parts of the house.
