The Credit Card

February 15th, 2009

This is one card that can come in very handy in times of emergencies but when abused, it can also burden you for years.

I have an Amex, a Visa card and a Mastercard ( that I’m not using). I’m actually just a supplementary from my Mom and Sis. The reason why they gave me supplementary cards is because I live in a different country and there will always be an emergency or two and a card can come in handy.

I had my first Visa card for about a year and I never got to use it. Obviously, the emergency never came, Thank God. But later, we found out the convenience of buying our plane tickets online and indeed the credit card helped us. So for years, the main purpose of my card was only for booking flights to and fro the Philippines.

But many months earlier, when I was here in the Philippines, money didn’t come on time so, I learned to use my credit card to buy groceries or other stuff. I tell you, once you use it you seem to get ‘addicted’ to it. Imagine, you get to buy things even if you only have 1 peso in your wallet.Hahaha!

So, I got to use it more often until I was not able to keep track on it. And only when I finally sat down and calculated my credit card expenses, I was amazed of how much I already spent and how much I needed to pay. Aside from the fact that prices here in the Philippines have really increased, I have also gone over my budget. Sad..sad..sad..

That’s why during the first two months of the year, we resolved to pay off all our credit card bills first and be ‘debt free’. And so we are…. errr.. sort of…heheheh!
